ELEMENTS AND QUALITIES
Partners with too many of the same category or element can cause conflict. Ideally there will be a balance between the two charts.
Fire with Fire
Each will see themselves reflected in the other. There may be a clash of wills with little inclination to compromise. Each may either pull in the same direction or in opposite directions. They spark off of each other when working in harmony and the energy produced it considerable. There may be sudden temper flares.
Fire with Earth
Metal, or earth is made flexible by fire so that it can be shaped. Too much earth can suffocate fire. This combination is expressed as spirit working with matter. Fire may be impatient with the plodding earth. Earth can be an anchor and a point of stability for fire. Earth may be critical of fire for impulsivity and Fire feels Earth spends too much time thinking and planning. Here we have enthusiasm countered with common sense.
Fire with Air
Fire needs air to keep burning but too much air can extinguish fire. Too much fire can consume air and destroy itself in the process. Here is a combination of idealism and enthusiasm that can lose touch with
reality. Practicality may be missing or used too little. Fire brings a sense of purpose to Air. Air inspires Fire.
Fire with Water
Too much Fire evaporates Water. Too much Water extinguishes Fire. The brash and self assured Fire are insensitive to the emotionally sensitive Water. Fire can become impatient with the timidity and fears of Water. Water is doubtful of Fire’s abilities and judgment. Fire needs patience with Water and Water needs to learn to risk.
Earth with Earth
This brings mutual respect and stability. But it is uninspiring and can be dull. It is almost too solid, too stable to be interesting. Each takes the other for granted.
Earth with Air
Earth is practical and doesn’t understand Air’s flights into the mind and fancy. Air is impatient with the slow, methodical Earth. Air can dry earth into dust if there is no balance. With balance Air provides oxygen for organic life to flourish in Earth.
Earth with Water
There is little movement here. Initiative is neither Earth nor Water. Each finds the moodiness of the other difficult to take. Practical Earth can’t understand emotional Water. Water is too sentimental for Earth. Too much Water makes mud. Too much Earth absorbs Water.
Air with Air
Here there is a meeting of the minds. Intellect will be the most predominant expression. Communication is easy. But they can be too abstract to get around to doing anything about their ideas and inspirations. This relationship needs some grounding.
Air with Water
Here we have intellect and emotion. Water is too mired in the past to appreciate Air’s forward, futuristic thinking. Water cannot understand Air’s ability to insulate their emotions and approach life with logic. Water has difficulty accepting the critical nature of Air. Air thinks Water’s fears are silly. With a good balance and a harmonious chart, Air can help Water use intellect and Water can help Air use emotions.
Water with Water
This is an intensely emotional combination. Both are intuitive and know what the other needs. There can be a clinging and mutual protectiveness. Both are inclined to be home-loving. Each can become overly sensitive to the other’s moods.
Cardinal with Cardinal
This brings a lot of action but the action must be coordinated or the two will rarely see each other. Each needs a lot of personal space. In harmonious charts there is mutual admiration.
Cardinal with Fixed
Here we have the wind against a stone wall. A lot of adaptability will be needed by both parties. Cardinal gives initiative and Fixed brings stability and motivation.
Cardinal with Mutable
This works best when both parties have the majority of planets in the same element. This brings activity but little grounding.
Fixed with Fixed
The emotional health and stability of each partner will determine the direction of this relationship. Fixed is conservative and resists change. In harmonious charts there is endurability and stability here. Each may need to learn adaptability. There is perseverance and faithfulness here. Neither wishes to dominate so there is equitability. In inharmonious charts differences are exaggerated and neither will concede to the other. Stubbornness reigns. There is intolerance and jealousy.
Fixed with Mutable
Here the Mutable partner needs to be willing to follow Fixed’s lead. Mutable admires Fixed strength and character and may become dependent on them for their own strength. In inharmonious charts Fixed finds Mutable irrational and flighty and Mutable sees fixed as stodgy and inflexible.
Mutable with Mutable
Here is a meeting of the minds. Both are adaptable and easy going but they are often rudderless with no goals or aims. Commitment may come but with difficulty and reticence. With enough mutual interests this can be successful on a more superficial level. Deeper issues are ignored or skirted.
PART OF MARRIAGE
The Arabic Part of Marriage, perhaps better called the Part of Union, is found by adding the ascendant and the descendant, then deducting Venus. Look for aspects to the part of marriage to get an idea of how marriage will go.
